Following a rapid increase of Covid-19 cases in Nagpur city and scare of Omicron variant looming large, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar has ordered a ban on all New Year celebrations.
Civic authorities have already imposed a night curfew and section 144 in the city because of rising cases.
Deferring from earlier order of relaxation issued by CP on night curb for restaurants, hotels, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has again imposed a night curb for all establishments. With the new order operation of restaurants, essential and non-essential shops, wine shops, bars, functions etc will be closed from 9 pm to 6 am.
On December 29, Collector Vimla R issued an order stating that hotels, restaurants, housing societies, farm houses, open space are allowed to function till 9 pm on December 31 but imposed ban on holding new year parties/celebrations there.
Meanwhile, the city reported 34 new COVID cases in a single day on Tuesday that was highest in the past few months. Meanwhile three cases of Omicron have been detected in Nagpur till date.
