Passenger services on Reach-II (Sitabuldi Interchange and Automotive Square Metro Station) and Reach-IV (Sitabuldi Interchange and Prajapati Nagar Metro Station) are set to start in the near future. Related work on these two Reach is going on. Maha Metro recently conducted Test Run between Sitabuldi Interchange and Vaishnodevi Square Metro Station in Reach-IV and commuters could ride Metro train as commercial services are set to start in the coming days.
Despite the COVID-19 threat looming large, Maha Metro successfully executed many of its project, even in these trying circumstances. As Sun sets on 2021, here is a glimpse of the highlights and major achievements of Maha Metro, Nagpur for this year:
• 9th January – Maha Metro Nagpur Facebook Page crosses 6 lakh likes mark.
• 24th January – Maha Metro MD Dr Brijesh Dixit addresses `Metro Maha-Samwaad’ organized by Unnati Foundation and Chhatra Jagruti.
• 26th January – Republic Day celebrated at Metro Bhavan. Maha Metro clocks a historic and record-breaking ridership of 56,406.
• 1st February – An amount of ₹ 5,976 and ₹ 2,092 proposed respectively for Nagpur Metro Phase-II & Nasik Metro Neo in the Union Budget by Union Finance Minister Hon Smt Nirmala Sitaraman.
• 9th February – A high-power delegation from France, led by French Ambassador His Excellency (Mr) Emmanuel Lenain visited Nagpur Metro project.
• 8 March – An amount of ₹ 188.95 crore and ₹ 302.19 crore respectively, proposed for Nagpur and Pune Metro Rail projects by Maharashtra Finance Minister Hon Shri Ajit Pawar in state budget.
• 31 March – Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) clears commercial services of Ujwal Nagar, Chhatrapati Nagar, Congress Nagar & Dharampeth College Metro Stations.
• 6April – Passenger services started from Ujwal Nagar, Chhatrapati Nagar, Congress Nagar & Dharampeth College Metro Stations.
• 2 June – Maha Metro successfully held trial run of Metro train on Reach II between Zero Mile Freedom Park and Kasturchand Park stations.
• 6 August 2021 – The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) gives sanction for Zero Mile Freedom Park and Kasturchand Park Metro Stations.
• 6 August 2021 – The remaining set of 2 trains or 6 coaches reach Nagpur. The total number of trains with Maha Metro is 23 now.
• 20August 2021 – The 1.6 km stretch between Sitabuldi Interchange and Kasturchand Park Metro Station and Freedom Park inaugurated at the hands of Maharashtra Chief Minister Hon Shri Uddhav Thackeray (through video link), Union Ministers Hon Shri Nitin Gadkari and Shri Hardeep Singh Puri (through video link), Maharashtra Public Works Minister Hon Shri Eknath Shinde, District Guardian Minister & Energy Minister Hon Shri Nitin Raut, Minister for Animal Husbandry, Youth Welfare and Sports Hon Shri Sunil Kedar, Secretary, MoHUA Hon Shri Durga Shankar Mishra (through video link), and others.
• 29 October 2021 – Union ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA) conferred the ‘Excellence in Urban Transport’ Award on Maha Metro. The award was presented by Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Urban Affairs, Housing, Petroleum and Gas, in New Delhi on October 29. The Secretary Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Durga Shanker Mishra graced the presentation ceremony. The award was received by Maha Metro Managing Director Dr Brijesh Dixit.
• 1 November 2021 – Maha Metro Managing Director Dr Brijesh Dixit showcased Metro Neo technology, which will be soon implemented in Nasik by Maha Metro, at World Expo Dubai, 2021. Similarly, the multi-modal integration (MMI) of Nagpur Metro, which received a national award recently, was also highlighted.
