A non-technical officer, who is Professor of Animal Husbandry & Dairy Science, is now looking after the affairs of Engineering Section by posting as Deputy Engineer in the College of Agriculture here.
According to reliable sources, the post of Deputy Engineer had fallen vacant following retirement of Mohan Chandurkar one year ago. Vilas Atkare, Professor of Animal Husbandry & Dairy Science, was given the charge, though he has no technical background. After some months, he was transferred to Wardha, following complaints against him. However, Moreshwar Wankhede, Executive Member, made efforts to bring back him to Nagpur and became successful in restoring him as Professor of Animal Husbandry & Dairy Science with additional charge as the Deputy Engineer, sources said.
There is already one Professor in Engineering Section, who had previously worked as Deputy Engineer, here but he was ignored, making injustice to him. The duty of Deputy Engineer is to look after construction activities, monitor the works, check measurements and maintain records. However, such technical work is now being done by a non-technical officer in the college, it is reported.
Meanwhile, sources pointed out that the college received funds for students with disability and charged some of the funds are being used for construction of toilets for them. The interesting part is such students from four section have classes in Agronomy Department, Opp University Library Building but the toilets are being built up at the office of Deputy Engineer, which is other side of Maharajbag link road, situated far away. One can think hardships of disabled students to go to toilet to such a far away place, sources added. When contacted, The Associate Dean told The Live Nagpur on Monday that the PDKV Engineer has taken that decision on administrative ground. He denied having diverted the funds towards construction of toilets because the funds are meant for providing facilities to the students.
