The general body meeting of Nagpur Municipal Corporation has passed a resolution unanimously for waiving of property tax on the property upto 500 sq ft in Nagpur city.
NMC’s Tax Recovery & Tax Collection Committee tabled the resolution in the meeting about charging no tax on property owners having 500 sq ft property.
Dayashankar Tiwari, the Mayor, asked the authority concerned to submit a proposal to the State Government for approval and once it is sanctioned then apply the decision in the city.
The online meeting discussed on the committee’s resolution for waiving of the property tax as is done in Mumbai. Avinasth Thakre, Ruling Party Leader, Tanaji Wanve, Opposition Leader, Adv Dharmapal Meshram, Corporator, and others took active part in the discussion.
On the occasion, Milind Meshram, Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), informed that Nagpur had around 2.50 lakh properties upto 500 sq ft. At present, the outstanding tax amount is Rs 90 crore, he added.
Thakre mentioned that this public-oriented decision was very important as the needy citizens would get much relief. He suggested that the government would not give any grants for this purpose and NMC should bear the expenditure while Adv Meshram said that action on administration level should be taken to ensure that the benefits of this decision would go to the needy persons,
