The students of Nagpur Municipal Corporation schools will be able to perform experiments in science and also undertake various other activities in their STEM Labs.
The important initiative has been taken under Activity Based Education. The funds for developing the STEM Lab in seven of the NMC Schools, was made available by MLC Pravin Datke.
The activities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) have been initiated with the help of Dhananjay Balpande, who had started the activities in the year 2017. In the first phase the STEM Lab will be active in seven schools.
Balpande stated that the STEM Kit has been developed scientifically and selected teachers have been trained in using it. The students will be able to involve the peer group members in the activity. The efforts is to make science and mathematics learning simple.
Balpande stated that the STEM Lab has been established in about 160 schools in various parts of the nation. Initial investment in establishing the STEM Lab is about Rs 10 to 12 Lakhs. Several private schools have preferred it for better teaching-learning process.
It is important, as students at school level are not allowed to handle equipment in laboratories. Only demonstration of experiments by the teacher is not sufficient for understanding the basic concepts.
Ravindra Fadnavis has provided space for office to the team of Balpande in his Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Nandanvan, here. Balpande and his co-workers are making efforts to build a team for developing scientific temper among the students and expect many budding scientists to come up in the future.
