The Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) of Nagpur Municipal Corporation registered as many as 44,611 cases of citizens not wearing masks from June 5, 2020 to February 7, 2022 in the city for behaving in irresponsible way despite increasing coronavirus cases. The squad recovered a fine of over Rs 2.05 crore from them.
The squad had launched the campaign against persons not wearing masks, following rise in the cases but recently Radhakrishnan B, Municipal Commissioner, asked the squad to intensify the campaign and take stern action against the citizens violating the government rules and becoming a cause to contribute in the increase of the Omicron/Covid-19 cases in the city.
Accordingly, the squad which was charging a fine of Rs 200 from each person not wearing the masks till September 14, 2020 raised the fine amount then to Rs 500 each person. The squad recorded highest number of cases i.e. 6,162 in Laxminagar zone, followed by Dhantoli zone where the number of cases reached to 5,937.
Meanwhile the squad, booked seven shops/marriage lawns/establishments for disobeying the covid protocol and recovered a fine of Rs 55,000 from them on Monday.
