The need for framing law to counter bioterrorism has been emphasised, looking into the ease with which it can be used and at the same time its severity.
The Covid19 attack has shaken the world. It is also difficult to establish that it was a fall out of bioterrorism. However, the huge loss of human life, adverse effect of economy and apparent helplessness of people, has invited attention of the entire globe.
A Parliamentary Committee headed by MP Ramgopal Yadav was constituted about an year back. The Committee has also recommended enactment of law to fight against bioterrorism.
The President of Microbiologists Society of India, Dr A M Deshmukh has written a letter to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. He has stated that there are many examples of the use of bioweapon, which is more dangerous compared to atomic or chemical weapons. Bioweapons are easy to use and can be used through animals, rats, pests in water, air, food grains etc. Many scientists have also warned against use of bioweapons.
Dr Deshmukh, in his letter to the Defence Minister has demanded urgent steps for framing the law. The Microbiologists Society of India has also assured support to the government in working out solution to the problem. The law can be framed for our nation or with some other nations.
