Pollution of water resources has become a common problem now-a-days. It is necessary to check pollution in the water resources and efforts should be made for checking water pollution, said R Vimala, District Collector.
She was speaking after inaugurating ‘Jaljagruti Week’ organised jointly by Water Resources Department, Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation and Indian Water Resources Institution at Sinchan Bhavan. Rajendra Kumar Mohite, Executive Direcrtor of the corporation, presided over the function in which Hemraj Bagul, Director, Information & Public Relations Department, Dr Prakash Pawar, Chief Engineer, WRD, Ashish Deogade, Chief Engineer, Gosikhurd project, Sanjay Wankhede, Praveen Mahajan, Rajesh Sontakke, Umesh Pawar, Ankur Desai and others were present.
Vimala further said that in absence of proper planning about availability of water, a large amount of water is wasted. The main intension of the week is to create awareness among the people about judicious use of water. The citizens may not suffer from water scarcity during summer months if water is used carefully now, she added.
The Water Resources Department should make a special action plan for drinking water and availability of water for agriculture and industry purposes, the Collector wanted.
In his address, Mohite said the week was being celebrated through co-ordination by different government departments. Priority is being given for maintain purity of water and checking waste of this valuable commodity. Various programmes would be held to create awareness among the public about controlling pollution of water resources, he added.
At the outset, the guests performed pooja of the urns containing water from 11 rivers in Vidarbha. The participants took oath for extending cooperation in water conservation. Umesh Pawar made introductory remarks while Rajesh Dhumne conducted the programme. Ms Vijayshri Burhade proposed a vote of thanks.
