Ashwati Dorje, Joint Commissioner of Police has issued order banning use of beam lights within 15 km radius from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur, from March 21 from 6 pm to 6 am.
The pilots of IAF, various airlines and helicopters have brought to the notice of the authorities that the beam lights used by persons or during programmes dazzle them while landing the aircraft. The runway lights and ATC tower using lights help them for showing the direction and place during take off and landing. However, the shining beam light create disturbances to them and a possibility of accident could not be ruled out.
Therefore, for the safety of pilots Dorje issued the order imposing ban on using beam light in the jurisdiction of Police Commissionerate for the next two months by using power delegated to her under Section144 of Criminal Procedure Code, 1973. The violators would invite suitable action, she added.
