Probably for the first time in the 100 year history of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, a meeting of the Senate was adjourned, without discussing any issue on the agenda. The meeting on Monday was adjourned within two minutes. The meeting was adjourned by the Vice-Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari, as allegedly he was not prepared to face volley of questions of the Senate members.
It is learnt that the Senate members were ready with questions relating to issues of harassment by a Ph D guide, granting contract to MKCL without inviting tender and other.
The Senate members were learnt had planned cornering the VC on the issues, which are maligning the image of the University.
The complaint of a Ph D research scholar against the guide and RRC members is being discussed in the academic circles and has made news in print and social media. The University has constituted a committee to enquire about the issue. However, objections are also being raised about the members of the Committee. Influence of a particular group of academicians on the functioning of the University is seen by the Senate members.
Some Senate members have also planned to lodge a complaint with the Governor, who is also Chancellor of the universities in Maharashtra and the Higher Education Minister.
On Monday, when the Senate reassembled for an adjourned meeting, a resolution to adjourn the meeting was moved immediately and accepted by the VC Dr Chaudhari.
Meanwhile some members of the Senate including Dr Rajesh Bhoyar, Vishnu Changde, Manmohan Bajpayi, Waman Turke and others have submitted a letter to the VC. They have stated that the meeting which was to discuss important issues has been adjourned within two minutes. The next meeting should be convened immediately. Copies of the letter have also been forwarded to the Chancellor, the Chief Minister and the Higher and technical Education Minister.
