National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC), Mouda, has bagged the TERI-IWA-UNDP Water Sustainable Runner-up award 2021-22 under the ‘Excellence in Participatory Water Management’ category.
The award ceremony was held on Tuesday in Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi, in which P K Sahu, AGM (CC CSR and R & D) and Ms Sanchi Agrawal, Executive (CSR), NTPC, Mouda. The award was won for financing the Jalyukta Shivar Project of Maharashtra Government in which NTPC contributed Rs two crore.
This project aimed at increasing the ground water level and storing it for a longer period in order to make water available to farmers throughout the year. The implementing partner of the project was Maharashtra wing of Art of Living (AOL), who were assisted by local farmers, residents of nearby villages and volunteers of AOL.
The project that started in 2017 has covered more than 200 km in Mouda, Hingna and Kamptee tehsils. NTPC had contributed towards the fuel charges of machinery and equipment involved in digging nullahs for capturing the rain water. Through NTPC’s financial aid, eight nearby villages are reaping the benefits of this project.
