The Enforcement Directorate has attached properties owned by Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha and brother Pravin, and a close associate Swapna Sujit Patkar . The property provisionally attached is estimated to be worth Rs 11.15 crore.
Besides irregularity in the redevelopment of Patra Chawl in Mumbai, the Rauts are facing charges under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
ED has issued a statement informing that the assets are in the form of lands held by Pravin Raut former Director of Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd, a flat in Dadar in the name of Varsha Raut and plot at Kihim Beach in Alibaug held by Varsha and Sanjay Raut, and Swapna Patkar.
Pravin Raut was arrested by ED on February 4, under PMLA. Pravin had received Rs 100 crore from Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd and diverted the money into various accounts of close relatives including Sanjay Raut.
Pravin Raut is also alleged to have misled MHADA in the construction of tenements for 672 displaced persons and launched another project and collected booking amounts from flat buyers. The amount thus collected is about Rs 138 crores. The total amount of the crime generated by Guru Ashish Construction is of about Rs 1,039.79 crores.
The ED has alleged that Rs 83 lakh was transferred to Varsha Raut from Madhuri Raut, wife of Pravin Raut, which was utilized by Varsha for the purchase of a flat at Dadar. The ED added that at least eight plots of land at Kihim beach at Alibaug in Maharashtra were purchased in the name of Varsha Raut and Swapna Patkar in 2010. These properties too have been provisionally attached, it said.
