Nagpur Municipal Corporation launched a campaign to clean Nag, Pili, Pohra rivers and nullahs passing through the city on Tuesday. Radhakrishnan B, Administrator and Municipal Commissioner, made beginning of the drive-by performing pooja of JCB in traditional way at Pohra river, Beltarodi, then inspected cleanliness works at Nag river near St Xavier School, East Nagpur, and gave instructions to the concerned officials.
NMC will undertake the cleanliness drive in two phases while various organisations assured to extend active cooperation to it in this venture. It takes up cleanliness drive for rivers during summer but it will do it in two phases. Under the first phase, the drive will be launched in six areas while the second phase will begin from Mary 1. Around 1.5 lakh metric tonnes of garbage is drawn out every year.
This year, the corporation will completely clean the width and depth of rivers and clear the flow of water during monsoon that will protect to people residing by the sides of rivers from floods.
Pradip Khawle, Chief Engineer, Manoj Talewar, Superintending Engineer, Prakash Warhade, Asstt Commissioner, Sonali Chavan, Executive Engineer, Rajesh Dufare, Deputy Engineer, Mohammad Israil, Technical Advisor, and others were present.
