It was the best Saturday for the Trinamool Congress as the party bagged the West Bengal bypolls with ease.
In the bypoll Babul Supriyo won the Ballygunge assembly constituency by 19,904 votes, while Shatrughan Sinha won the Asansol parliamentary seat by 2.97 lakh votes.
This is the first time that the Mamata Banerjee-led party has won the Asansol Parliamentary seat. The Asansol election was considered a major seat as Trinamool had never won.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has thanked the electors of the Asansol Parliamentary Constituency and the Ballygunge Assembly Constituency for giving a decisive mandate to her party candidates.
“We consider this to be our people’s warm Shubho Nababarsho gift to our Ma- Mati- Manush organization. Salute to the voters for reposing faith in us, yet again,†she tweeted.
