On Monday evening, a bag containing 54 gelatin sticks capable of low-intensity blast was discovered near the Traffic police booth at the main gate, causing consternation at Nagpur Railway Station.
At around 7.30 p.m., a constable saw the unclaimed bag near the Traffic police booth, according to a police official. He looked into the bag and saw a packet of gelatin sticks.
The cop immediately alerted senior police officers. The information was given to Dog squads and Bomb Diffusal and Disposal Squad (BDDS) of Nagpur city police.
Staff Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) cordoned off the area as a precautionary measure. The BDDS squad arrived at the spot at around 8 pm and took the bag in the possession for disposal.
The detonator was connected to the gelatin sticks with a proper circuit used to trigger a blast, the official said. Such gelatin sticks are used for low-intensity blast in well or industries, the official further said.
A platoon of Quick Response Team and the Dog squad was deployed at the railway station for patrolling in night hours. SP (GRP) M Rajukumar said that the cops are investigating the case to ascertain why the bag was kept near the traffic police booth. “We are checking CCTV footage to identify the person,†he further added.
