Traders and businessmen from the city assured in a meeting held on Wednesday at NMC regarding ban on single use plastic that they would avoid use of plastic from July 1 and cooperate to NMC and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB).
The Ministry for Environment, Forests and Climate Change has issued directives about banning single use plastic from July 1. Now, there will be ban on production of single use plastic, import, hoarding, distribution, sale and use. Therefore, Nuisance Detection Squad of NMC is to launch strict against against defaulters using the plastic. It also held rallies in all the ten zones on Tuesday to create awareness among the people, trading and business community.
The traders and businessmen met Ram Joshi, Additional Municipal Commissioner, who discussed about the issue with them. The officials of NMC and MPCB listened to their problems and sorted out. The business community assured that they would follow the directives issued by NMC and MPCB.
Joshi also appealed to the citizens to avoid single use plastic from July 1 onwards. Pradeep Khawle, Chief Engineer, Dr Gajendra Mahalle, Deputy Commissioner and Director of Solid Waste Management, Veersen Tambe, Chief of squad, Umashankar Bhadule, Deputy regional Officer, MPCB, Kishor Pusadkar, Area Officer, representatives of cloth market, associations, hotel association and others were present.
