It imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh to Hind Labs for finding bio-medical waste in normal garbage
As part of its intensified campaign against establishments and shop-keepers, Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) of NMC took strict action against 22 defaulters for using banned single use plastic and throwing garbage in different parts of the city on the second day on Saturday.
The squad recovered a fine of Rs 2.30 lakh from them, including Rs one lakh alone from Hind Labs, Diagnostic Centre (Dr Ritesh Shirsagar), NIT Building, Sitabuldi, Morbhavan for throwing garbage of bio-medical waste with the normal garbage.
It took action against Anurag Developers, Jaitala, Sony Marketing, near Ganesh Nagar Police Station, Mona Escron, Mahal, Indore Namkin, Kamal Bazaar, Haldiram, Sadar Road, for use of single use plastic materials and spreading construction materials by roadside and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 to each party. It also took action against 16 shops/establishments for violating the rules and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 to each.
Meanwhile, the Ministry for Environment, Forests & Climate Change has banned single use plastic from July 1. NDC had created public awareness about avoiding use of such plastic materials and warned that it would take strict action against the defaulters. Similarly, a meeting of businessmen and traders was also held with Radhakrishnan B, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, NMC, recently in which they had assured to cooperate with the corporation.
