Team India wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant made a stunning comeback after multiple failures in white-ball cricket to score his maiden ODI century and helped his side get to a 5-wicket win in the series decider against England.
Rishabh Pant along with Hardik Pandya stitched a 133-run partnership to take India across the line. The Indian wicketkeeper scored an unbeaten 125-run knock to help Team India beat England.
Pant received a medal and a champagne bottle in recognition of his efforts. Pant crossed over to speak with former India coach Ravi Shastri, who is part of the commentary team for the host broadcaster, Sky Sports, as soon as he finished his post-match interview. Both were seen hugging each other. But what grabbed everyone’s attention was Pant gifted ex-India coach Ravi Shastri a bottle of champagne. Shastri accepted it after congratulating Pant.
When the Indian team started celebrating with the champagne bottles popped all over, former skipper Virat Kohli too offered one to Shastri. The images of the same were all over social media. Kohli, who was captain under Shastri as the coach shared a close bond with the 1983 World Cup winner before the latter resigned as the head coach following the 2021 T20 World Cup.
India won their third ODI series in England, winning 2-1 after losing the second game by 100 runs. India was in trouble in the series decider as well, but Pant and Pandya made sure England didn’t get back into the game.
