The Government of India has constituted a task force, in view of the growing threat of monkeypox virus.
The task force will be headed by Dr V K Paul, a member of NITI Aayog and consists of five members, including Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan. The Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology and top pharma officials will be the members.
The task force will oversee the clinical measures being taken to combat monkeypox and coordinate between several ministries.
A 22-year-old man died in Kerala on Sunday and had symptoms like monkeypox. However, monkeypox has not yet been confirmed in the person. So far four monkeypox patients have been reported in the country, one of which is also from Delhi.
