Shiv Sena Spokesperson, Editor of Marathi daily Samna and Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut has been granted four-day Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody.
Raut was arrested by ED around midnight intervening Sunday and Monday. The sleuths of ED raided his house on Sunday morning and took his to ED office for enquiry. After grilling him till late night, he was arrested by the ED. Raut is charged of money laundering in connection with the Patrachawl redevelopment in Mumbai.
The amount under suspicion is more than a thousand crore rupees. Raut was issued three notices by ED, which he neglected. He is also charged of tampering with the evidence in this connection.
Demonstrations were staged in various parts of Maharashtra against action against Raut. A heavy police force was deployed outside Raut’s residence during the raid and later outside the ED office.
The raid and arrest were carried out as Raut did not attend the ED office for enquiry after the third notice. Raut’s wife was also summoned for enquiry. The builder of the chawl had transferred Rs 83 lakhs in her account. The transaction is under scrutiny.
