The Supreme Court has granted conditional bail to activist, poet, writer and journalist Varavara Rao, on health grounds. The 84 year leader has been arrested in connection with the Elgar Parishad and involvement in Bhima Koreagaon violent riots.
Rao has been directed not to leave Mumbai, without permission of NIA. His health condition did not improve after about two and a half years of jail. The cae has not moved forward after the charge sheet has been served. Looking into his health condition, the bail has been granted. He has been directed to surrender after three months. The application of permanent bail was rejected by the court.
The bail was granted by a bench of U U Lalit, Anuriddha Bose and Sudhanshu Dhulia.
