Meraki Performing Arts Organization is organizing the screening of documentary ‘Janani’s Juliet’ on 16th August (Tuesday) at 6pm at Meraki Theatre, Ramdaspeth, Nagpur. The film has been India’s Official Entry for the Oscar’s in 2019, and has won several acclaims worldwide. Veteran Filmmaker and Director of the film, Pankaj Rishi Kumar will be present in-person for the audience interaction and QnA post the screening.
Kausalya lost her husband, when they were attacked by her family. The film is about Indianostrum, a Pondicherry based theatre group; who are deeply disturbed by a spate of honor killings in India; and set out to introspect the implications of caste, class and gender. They adapt Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
This event is a part of ‘Film Screening and Discussion’, organized by Meraki Performing Arts Organisation. As a part of this initiative, every month at least 2 film screenings are organized; proceeding with a discussion with the filmmakers. The screening space intends to showcase creative and contemporary short films and documentaries, which travel to International Film Festivals; but are not easily available to watch online.
