The Nagpur International Below 1600 FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2022 saw the seeded players being beaten at the end of five rounds. till fifth round. In the three rounds conducted on 14th August 2022, there were many upsets with Nagpur youngsters scoring against higher rated opponents. The top seed Jatin Deshpande from Aurangabad was held to draw in the first round itself by Aarav Tripathi of Maharashtra. The eighth seed Pramod Kumar Soni of Chhattisgarh was also held to a draw by Addyay Vinay Damke of Nagpur. 4th Seed Jagdish Narang (MP) was defeated by Kanishq Dutta of Nagpur in Second Round. In the fourth round held on 15th August 2022, 2nd Seed Pramod Dhamgaye of Nagpur was beaten by Sumedh Ramteke of Nagpur and 3rd Seed Amrendra Kumar was toppled by Amol Ramteke of Nagpur.
Still the tournament is wide open as seven players share the lead after the 5th Round of the three day event with five points to their credit after five rounds. The tournament is being organized by Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation at BRA Mundle Hall, Near Deekshabhoomi, Nagpur from 14th to 16th August 2022. The event is recognized by the Chess Association Nagpur, MCA, AICF and FIDE. The tournament is being conducted in Classical Format having 9 rounds.
The sixth Round of the event was inaugurated at the hands of Shri Makrand Pandharipande, President, Blind Relief Association, Nagpur by playing a move on the Chess Board. 7th Round shall start at 8.30 am on 16th August 2022.
The tournament has attracted around 480 entries from various states of India. Shri Promodraj Moree, IA is the Chief Arbiter for the event who is being Assisted by Deputy Arbiter FA Pravin Thakre, FA Shubham Soni, SNA Amit Tembhurne, SNA Swati Kumbhalkar, SNA Devrath Tiwari, , SNA Sudhashu Gaidhane, SNA Sagar Sakhare and Ku. Bhagyashri Bhandekar ably supported by Prayas Ambade, Amit Bhongare, Prathamesh Machave and Deep Juare.
Mr. Bhushan Shriwas (Secretary) Of Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation alongwith Organising Committee consisting of Shri S.S.Soman, Prayas Ambade, Amit Tembhurne, Amit Bhongare and Prathamesh Machave along with officials of Chess Association Nagpur are working hard for success of the event.
