Railway Police Force, Nagpur, has done a smart job in nabbing a thief stealing Rs 13 lakh from Santacruz, Mumbai, and travelling by Geetanjali express on Sunday in between Wardha and Nagpur railway stations.
PSI Subhash S Madavi and staff checked the bag in CCTV room in Nagpur in presence of two witnesses checked the bag and recovered Rs 4,11,370/- in cash and gold mangalsutra worth Rs 91,000/-. The thief confessed to have deposited Rs 2 lakh in the name of his mother in bank, Rs 3 lakh in the bank account of his wife and Rs 2 lakh in his own bank account. The police recovered documents regarding bank deposits, wrist watch, mobile and clothes from him.
It is reported that one Dipak Binod Nayak (44), a resident of Deula village, Bhograi, Baleshwar district in Odissa had stolen the amount from Santacruz and started travelling by 12859 Geetanjali express. Santacruz Police Station contacted RPF, Nagpur, and informed about the incident and about his travel. PI Nagpur immediately alerted Police Inspectors at Shegaon, Akola and Badnera and asked to chek Geetanjali express.
Upon getting information that Nayak was not located, PI Nagpur informed Police Inspector at RPF Control Room and Wardha. PI Wardha along with staff boarded the express train at Wardha and started intense checking of the compartments. The staff found a suspicious person in on berth no: 62 of coach no: S/6. The police made enquiries and found the bag. After alighting at Nagpur station, PI Nagpur and PI Crime branch interrogated him. Nayak then started spilling the beans. Nagpur RPF informed Santacruz Police Station about arrest of the thief. PSI Dattatraya Mahadeo Khade, J V Phatak and staff reached Nagpur to whom Nagpur PRF handed over the accused.
The action of nabbing and recovering the amount was taken under the guidance of Ashutosh Pandey, Senior Section Security Commissioner, Nagpur, and Kota Joji, Asstt Security Commissioner by PI R L Meena, PI N P Singh.
