The youth in Vidarbha looking for institutes to facilitate Skill Development and on the job training facilities in Defence & Aerospace have a reason to celebrate as Vidarbha Defence Industries Association and Yantra India Ltd (DPSU) entered into MoU to setup Centre Of Excellence and Centralized Facility Centre at Yantra Institute of Technology and Management and Common facility Centre at Factory Learning Institute located at Ordinance Factory Amabazari, Nagpur.
Yantra India Ltd came forward to support VDIH initiative to establish a Global Center of Excellence in Defence, Aerospace locally at Nagpur to boost youth across Vidarbha and central India to take up career in this field.
Mr. Dushyant N Deshpande from VDIH told that ‘The entire ecosystem will become the epicenter of development in Aerospace, Aviation and Defence. Initially we proposed utilize the YITM infrastructure, which shall be utilized for creating UDAN-skill development centre and subsequently NIRMAN-Integrated Manufacturing cum Centralized Facility Centre will be established within existing setup of Ordnance Factory Ambhajari’.
Chairman and Managing Director of Yantra India Limited IOFS Rajeev Puri informed that ‘ Main objective of this project is to provide Skill Development and on the job training facilities to nurture the skills of local population in the field of Defence& Aerospace and ensure that the population becomes employable. VDIH shall also provide centralized facilities which will be useful for those who wish to start their own manufacturing enterprise. Necessary legal and techno-commercial guidance shall also be provided by VDIH for prospective entrepreneurs’.
VDIH convenor Dushyant Deshpande shed more light and told that VDIH shall train minimum 40,000 persons in five years at UDAN Aero Defence Centre of excellence and will be able to skill through on the job training ,support SMEs around Nagpur at Nirman Centre in the field of Reverse Engineering, Prototyping, Product Development through Integrated Manufacturing, thereby creating and sustaining future industry ready workforce to absorb the emerging opportunities in Aerospace and Defence Manufacturing . This will help VDIH to ultimately generate employment, generate skilled workforce and increase industry base in Vidarbha region.
Financial Provision :
With reference to the proposal to set up Common Facility Centre at Nagpur the Department of Industries, Energy, Labour had sanctioned Rs. 30 Crores to VDIA Nirman Cluster to establish Common Facility Centre at Nagpur. The Secretary Industries chaired the meeting under Aerospace and Defence Policy had directed MIDC to take appropriate measures to release Rs. 30 Crores equity for the development of CFC at Nagpur.
With reference to the proposal to establish UDAN- Centre of Excellence for Skill Development in Aerospace and Defence, It is pertinent to note that the SDED and MSSDS has sanctioned Rs. 63 Crores as grant to Special Project under PMKVY G.R SDED 2018/P.No1/Mission-1 Dt 30th May2019. This grant is meant to be utilizes in 5 yrs. period to train 40000 youths.
The disbursal of grant and financial support was withheld, and the project was kept on Temporary Hold due to COVID situation. Since thereafter all the restrictions owing to Covid situation has been removed, on 26th July we have requested Commissioner SDED and also wrote to CEO MIDC on 23rd July 2022to take appropriate action to put in place suitable mechanism towards enabling the VDIA YIL Combine to Start the COE at OFIL Ambajhari Nagpur.
ABOUT Vidarbha Defence Industries Association & Yantra India Limited Association: Vidarbha Defence Industrial Hub is a Public Private Partnership venture in association with Yantra India Ltd and The Vidarbha Defence Industries Association and aptly supported by local industries in and around Nagpur. The Govt of Maharashtra had come forward to participate in the endeavour. We had signed MOU during Magnetic Maharashtra to setup UDAN-Aero Defence Skill Competence Centre and Nirman-CFC cum Integrated Manufacturing Centre in Nagpur. In furtherance to it VDIA has also signed MOU with MIDC to promote Maharashtra as a preferred destination for Aerospace and Defence industries.
A major force multiplier for Development of Nagpur in particular took place in September 2021, when Govt of India Corporatized erstwhile Ordnance Factory Board. Yantra India Ltd was formed and headquartered in Ordnance Factory Ambhajari premises. The MOU between YIL and VDIA will be exchanged in Bandhan Event which is scheduled to be during 18th Oct to 22nd Oct at DEFEXPO202 Gandhinagar.
