Firm in their demands to increase the stipend, the intern doctors of batch 2017 of Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Hingna, Nagpur, continue their strike on the second day.
The intern doctors alleged that the management is giving Rs 100 to MBBS interns which is less and is an insult.
Lata Mangeshkar Hospital which is attached to NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre is one of the most prestigious medical colleges in Maharashtra and yet pays one of the lowest amounts as a stipend given to interns across Maharashtra, said the interns of batch 2017.
“We submitted multiple letters in the last 3 months to the management regarding an increment in our stipend from the current 3000/- to 11000/- as par with the stipend given in Government Medical Colleges in Maharashtra and free hostel accommodation for interns, for which we have not received any documented response yet,” said student’s representative Ashutosh Ade.
We have also demanded free accommodation in the hostel and have requested to waive off the hefty amount being charged as late fees, Ade added.
We are yet to get any written assurance from the management, Ade said.
We will continue to fight for our rights till our demands are not met, interns said.
