Death due to non-availability of ventilator
The Dean of Government Medical College and Hospital Dr Sudhir Gupta has been removed and a departmental enquiry against him ordered. There is no specific order relating to his repatriation to his original departments or elsewhere.
Dr Gupta has been removed from the Dean’s post, following the death of a 17-year old patient, who was not provided a ventilator. The temporary lecturer who was on the duty has also been suspended.
Vaishnavi Bageshwar died due to non-availability of ventilator at GMCH, Nagpur, on September 16. An enquiry was demanded in this case.
The Directorate of Medical Education and Research stated that several complaints against Dr Gupta were received, besides a report relating to death of a patient due to non-availability of a ventilator. The action was taken based on a report of a committee set-up by DMER.
It has also been reported that out of 200 ventilators with GMCH, only 20 are in use.
