The construction of 25,000 mobile towers over a 500-day period will cost the government Rs 26,000 crore, it was announced on Tuesday.
According to a spokesman for the telecom ministry, the project will be carried out by Bharat Broadband Network with funding provided by the Universal Services Obligation Fund.
Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw made the announcement during the three-day “Digital India Conference of State IT Ministers,” which ended on October 3.
