If any hotel, restaurant, wedding venue, or private organisation discards leftover food in open public spaces, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will issue a fine of 21 lakh.
If members of the public are discovered leaving food on the highways, the civic authority will also take action against them.
The owners of a marriage venue in Ram Nagar were fined 250,000 by the NMC’s annoyance detection squad (NDS) a few days ago for dumping food on the road.
This move was insufficient to stop the annoyance because there were still numerous reports of food waste being dumped on city streets.
The NMC administration has requested that people compost their leftover food instead than throwing it out on the street. The city council stated that people can also leave their leftover food to rubbish collection businesses.
Citizens mix leftover food with regular rubbish, which causes trash to emanate a bad stench. The waste must be segregated. This behaviour must stop, “NMC is taking action against those tossing leftover food in public locations.”
