The Walkathon had more than 50 participants. The aim of this event was to make people aware of
stroke, its causes, and its signs. In a recent survey, it has been discovered that more than 85% of
affected people fail to recognize early signs of stroke which is alarming.
Dr. Ankur Jain and Dr. Amit Bhatti gave a presentation on Stroke awareness and also demonstrated ways
to deal with Stroke.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bhatti said, “One in four persons has a lifetime risk of stroke. Stroke is not
only life-threatening but the survivors are rendered disabled for the rest of their life. On 29th October
which is celebrated as world stroke day, I would like to highlight the importance of timely treatment of
acute ischemic stroke”.
“If any patient with symptoms of stroke reaches a stroke-ready hospital within 4.5 hours of onset, he
can be given clot lysing or removal therapy which can actually reverse paralysis and the ensuing
morbidity. Stroke-ready hospital means a center that has round-the-clock availability of brain imaging in
the form of CT OR MRI scans and is also equipped to give thrombolytic therapy”, Dr. Bhatti explained
further.
