Businessman held for cricket betting
Tuesday evening, city police nabbed a businessman for cricket betting. The accused Prakash Krishnani is learnt to be an aide of noted cricket bookie Chelani.
Based on the confidential information, Criminal Intelligence Unit of DCP Zone 3 Gajanan Rajmane conducted the raid at Prakash Krishnani’s shop, R K Traders, near Nehru Putla Square, Itwari.
The raid was conducted by ACP Sachin Thorbole and his team, including PSI Jitesh Arvelli, Vaibhav Barange, Constable Vinod Gavai, Ashish Ambade, and Rajesh Bendekar, who found Krishnani betting on a semi-final match between Pakistan and New Zealand onthe website- Lotus Book 247.
According to the police, Krishnani was using Rajesh Chelani’s ID for the last 2 years to play cricket betting. Thus, police have also booked Chelani as an accused. Chelani is a famous bookie in the city.
Investigation revealed that he is a punter of the famous cricket bookie Chelani. Police have registered a case against both, Prakash Topandas Krishnani (53), a resident of Deshpande Layout, and Rajesh Shankarlal Chelani (46), a resident of Bhakti Apartment, Satnaminagar.
The police have seized cash Rs 12,350 in cash and goods worth Rs 32,350 including mobile phones from Prakash. The search is on for Chelani.
