Polling in the first phase of elections to the Senate of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University will be held on November 20. The voters will elect their representatives on the Senate in Teachers, Principals and College Management constituencies. Campaigning would end on Saturday. The candidates are relying on personal contacts, as the voters are specific for each constituency..
Many associations have joined hands against Vidyapeeth Shikshan Manch. Nagpur University Teachers Association (NUTA) is another association which has not joined hands with others. Young Teachers Association, Secular Panel, Sangram Parishad, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Teachers Organisation are in the fray and campaigning for their candidates.
The election of RTMNU was in controversy over rejection and acceptance of nomination forms. The nomination forms accepted by the Registrar and Presiding Officer were rejected by the VC Dr Subhash Chaudhari. The nominations rejected were accepted under the direction of the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court. A large number of contestants approaching the court against the VC’s decision marred the spirit of the elections this year. Kajol Rotele’s nomination was first rejected and then accepted. Dr Priya Wanjari, Dr Wasnik had to move the court against the VC.
The VC had to face ignominy of seeking pardon for his mistakes in the court more than once.
Senior leaders Dr Babanrao Taywade, Dr R G Bhoyar, Dr Urmila Dabir, Adv Abhijit Wanjari, Vishnu Changde, Shikshan Manch President Dr Kalpana Pande are working hard to get their candidates elected. Some of them are also in the fray.
Polling for the Graduates’ constituency will be held later.
The University staff and officers are working hard for smooth conduct of the elections. Utmost care is required as this is preferential voting pattern elections.
