The people using the railway crossing on Wardha Road-Manish Nagar are facing serious problems of commuting. The gate was closed without giving adequate publicity to the work of underpass to be constructed there.
A large number of commuters are required to turn back from the closed gate. Several parents can be seen everyday parking their vehicles on the Manish Nagar side and crossing the railway line with their kids to be dropped at a school adjacent to the railway crossing on the other side.
The board installed at the gate said that the Gate (No 120) has been closed for construction of Road Under-Bridge from November 21, 2022. The Executing Agency is Mahametro, Nagpur. The project is based on cost sharing with the State Government.
With the closure of the gate, those on the eastern side of the railway line are compelled to use the under bridge at Ujjwal Nagar. This is a one-way underpass and the majority of those coming from eastern side violate the rule, as using the flyover is very difficult for the majority of them.
The Road Under-Bridge at Gate No. 120 is learnt to be 300 meter long and about 15 meter wide.
The original underpass was planned and announced at the same place. With difficulties in acquisition of land for the proposed underpass, it was shifted to Ujjwal Nagar. The underpass at Ujjwal Nagar also faced the same problem and it has dangerous turns. The depth of the road was also not planned properly as water from the drainage can be seen on any given day. During the last monsoon season the underpass was closed for several days. The closure of Ujjwal Nagar underpass resulted in heavy rush at the Manish Nagar railway crossing.
With the closure of Manish Nagar crossing, the problem has aggravated further. The construction of the Road Under-Bridge at Manish Nagar crossing may require more than a year. The road-side small businessmen near the railway crossing are facing serious problems due to drastic reduction in their customers.
