Fifty-eight gardens in the city do not have drinking water facility admits the NMC’s garden department to a query raised under the Right To Information Act by activist Abhay Kolarkar.
A total of 237.45 acres of land is inclusive of these 182 gardens which are full of greenery. The lack of maintenance deploys its very beautiful purpose.
The parks which have toilets made for public use have practically failed to maintain cleanliness and hygiene which makes them completely useless.
Sources have claimed that a fair amount by the NMC had been invested to give a makeover to some of the parks in the city like Traffic Park, Ambazari Garden, Shivaji Nagar and etc for the installation of amusement facilities.
The information by the department revealed that the highest number of gardens and parks are under Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s constituency South West. Laxmi Nagar zone, which has a southwest constituency has 43 gardens, out of which only 5 have toilets while only 30 have drinking water facilities.
