National Pollution Control Day is observed every year to foster awareness on Environment and to minimize pollution of any kind. This year Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL), along with Maha Metro, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, and MYBYK organised a Cycle Marathon to bring awareness among citizens about the rising pollution level and traffic congestions in city which demands an immediate shift to the Non-Motorised Transport like Bicycles and walking, for the shorter distances.
Citizens from all the age groups ranging from school children to elderly participated enthusiastically and became exemplars of judicious citizens who cycle for cause. Various NMC school students, teachers and cyclist group led by Mr RavindraParanjpe came forward and pedalled through the city with important messages and slogans starting from the Freedom Park, Zero Mile.
Dr Amit Samarth (Bicycle Mayor of Nagpur) informed the citizens about the importance of non-motorised commute. Dignitaries from Maha Metro Mr Uday Borwankar (Executive director operations), and NSSCDCL Mr AshishMukim (Independent director) flagged off the Bicycle riders
giving an ardent start to the Cycle Marathon. CEO of NSSCDCL Mr Chinmay Gotmare urged every
citizen to make a transition towards non-motorized commute and Public Transport to save energy,
reduce emissions to make our city more clean and resilient for our present and future generations.
Throughout the event, officials from Maha Metro, NSSCDCL and NMC Teachers were present to
encourage the participation of citizens.
