International Civil Aviation Day is celebrated on December 7, every year to celebrate and promote awareness of the importance of international civil aviation organizations in international air travel. Safety standards in international aviation are maintained by the ICAO, an autonomous UN body.
The day is marked as a global observance and not a public holiday.
International Civil Aviation Day is intended to raise awareness of the importance of international civil aviation to the economic and social development of countries, and of the unique role of ICAO in helping nations cooperate and build a global rapid transit network for the benefit of all mankind.
The theme for International Civil Aviation Day 2022 :
The theme for International Civil Aviation Day 2022 is, “Advancing Innovation for Global Aviation Development” and will remain till 2023.
Every five years, coinciding with ICAO anniversaries, the ICAO Council establishes a special anniversary theme for International Civil Aviation Day. Between these anniversary years, Council representatives select a single theme for the full four-year intervening period.
International Civil Aviation Day History:
International Civil Aviation Day was first celebrated in 1994. As part of ICAO’s 50th-anniversary celebrations, it was established in 1994. 1996 was the year when the UN General Assembly formally recognized December 7 as International Civil Aviation Day.
