A 37-year-old woman ended her life after unable to bear the loss of her mother. On Wednesday, Lekha Mudaliyar, a resident of Jayanti Mansion 9 society in Manish Nagar jumped from the 11thstorey of the building.
Lekha used to live with her father Pandurang (72), a retired auditor from the AG office, and mother Vijaya, according to locals. She did not marry to provide for her parents. Lekha, an engineer, was a manager at a well-known IT firm, making around 30 lakh per year. It was a prosperous family. They had travelled to Lucknow for a wedding last month.
After they returned Vijaya complained of breathing difficulty. Her oxygen had dropped suddenly, so she was admitted to a private hospital where she died a few days later.
Sources said Lekha had a reserved nature but was very close to her mother. When Vijaya was in hospital, Lekha had stopped eating. Vijaya’s death was a major trauma for her. Vijaya died around 15 days back.
Lekha apparently had made her plans much earlier. She had gone to office a couple days back and submitted her resignation. She also gave all financial documents to her father and transferred *1 lakh in his account for expenses.
On Wednesday afternoon, when Pandurang slept. Lekha, who used to live on the first floor, took a chair from her flat to the terrace. She used the chair to climb on the parapet wall and sat there.
Sources said a couple passing from the road saw her. They told one of the residents of the society who was just going in. Before the person could reach the society, Lekha had jumped to her death. She was rushed to hospital but in vain.
Beltarodi police, led by PI Chandrakant Yadav, reached the spot. Cops found a suicide note saying, ‘I can not live without my mother, I will follow her’.
The incidents left the society shocked. Beltarodi police have registered a case of accidental death.
