Rail track will reduce the commuting time from Nagpur to Mumbai by train
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and the National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHRSC) are jointly considering the possibility of starting a new train route from Nagpur to Mumbai.
This rail track will run parallel to the Samruddhi Mahamarg from Nagpur to Mumbai which has reduced the travel time by road to Nagpur substantially. “Now if a rail track is laid parallel’ to this road it will also reduce the time taken to reach Mumbai by train. We have chosen Samruddhi as it is the shortest route to Mumbai, Hence, we are seriously looking at this project,” said a senior official.
The official however clarified that at present the project is just at the assessment stage.
As already some people living near the highway are claiming that the highway has reduced their accessibility to the road due to compound walls near their land there are possibilities of the rail track affecting their access more.
Reacting to this issue the official said the walls were for locals’ safety. The walls also protect animals from coming on the road which prevents accidents. Otherwise, also people don’t have to walk more than a few hundred meters to reach the road.
