Samruddhi Expressway was built with the assumption that moving traffic will be moving at a 150 km/hr rate of speed. The state government has currently set a maximum speed limit of 120 kmph on the highway, according to the responsible minister Shambhuraj Desai, who spoke to the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. This limit was set after accidents and tyre burst incidents were taken into account.
In the Legislative Assembly, there had been a motion to draw attention to traffic incidents, to which he was responding. Samruddhi Desai commented on the subject of accidents by saying that speed guns would be deployed to regulate vehicle speed. It will be possible to have more patrolling cars. At the exit, these cars will be parked.
Expressing concern about speeding vehicles, Desai said that to control the speed of vehicles on the Mumbai-Pune expressway, the speeding driv- ers were stopped at the exit gate and guided for half an hour. It was showing positive results.
The opposition party also informed the House that the tyres of MLA Raees Sheikh’s vehicle had burst.
Aditya Thackeray of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thack- eray) group raised the issue of lane cutting and signal breaking of vehicles and pointed out that the amount of fine was low.
Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole raised the issue of potholes on roads. On this, Shambhuraje Desai attacked the previous Maha- vikas Aghadi government. He said, the potholes in the last two and a half years will be investigated.
Transport companies whose vehicles are frequently involved in accidents will also be investigated.
