The resolution condemning the Karnataka Government for escalating dispute over Maharashtra-Karnataka border villages was moved by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The resolution was passed unanimously in both the House of the Maharashtra Legislature on Tuesday.
The issue is pending in the court of law. Maharashtra has claimed that 865 villages in Belgaon, Karwar, Nipani, Bidar and other areas belong to Maharashtra. Similar claim has also been made by Karnataka.
Shinde said that senior lawyers will be appointed to contest the case in the Supreme Court and all other efforts will be made to bring back the villages in Maharashtra. Marathi speaking people are being ill-treated in Karnataka. He appreciated the stand of the Opposition in supporting the resolution. The martyrs in the border dispute fight have been identified. Their family members will be given an honorarium of Rs 20,000 per month. Other benefits of the schemes of the Maharashtra Government will also be extended to those in the disputed areas.
The resolution was moved in the Legislative Assembly by Shinde and by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the Legislative Council.
Speaker Rahul Nervakar said that the Centre should warn Karnataka Government to resolve the dispute amicably. Karnataka Chief Minister made instigating statements recently, which was uncalled for as the case is pending with the Supreme Court.
