Amitesh Kumar, the city police chief, announced on Friday that undercover female police officers would be present at the party locations for New Year’s Eve celebrations. Their sole responsibility would be to keep women safe while remaining undetected. The municipal police have set up 25 anti-drunk driving squads to catch drivers and riders who are under the influence of alcohol. The government has granted authorization for drinks to be served until 5.00 am.
Around 2,500 soldiers would be stationed throughout the city, Amitesh Kumar continued. There will be 25 special squads made up of personnel from the local police stations that will work to apprehend drunk drivers. If people are caught driving while intoxicated, the cars will be transported to the police stations along with the drivers and passengers, he added.
10,000 specific usage and throe pipes for breathalyzers have been purchased by the police. The action will be carried out in front of CCTV cameras, and the traffic cops will have body cameras. If citizens act impolitely toward police and interfere with their work, it will be firmly dealt with.
Kumar further said that female officers from the crime section would be stationed at various party locations in plain clothing. The police’s top three concerns on New Year’s Eve would be women’s safety, crime prevention, and safe driving.
In addition to the foregoing, an anti-teasing “Damini-Squad” would be roaming the city in the evening.
