According to police officials, amid the city’s New Year celebrations, Nagpur City Police arrested 80 persons for drunk driving.
While 5,200 vehicles were inspected at Nakabandi locations, 80 intoxicated drivers were apprehended by the city police. Due to the drivers’ intoxicated driving, the authorities confiscated the automobiles.
For the protection of local residents throughout the celebration, many police officers were stationed throughout, and from late Saturday night to early Saturday morning, a campaign was run to catch anyone breaking traffic laws.
The city police issued challans to around 1,499 people and collected Rs 1.5 lakh as a fine.
City police chief Amitesh Kumar on Sunday even extended his gratitude to Nagpurians for cooperating with cops and said that the strategy of appealing to people through social and traditional media seemed to have worked wonders.
