NMC is improving the area around Ajni Clock Tower. The project is almost finished, and Nagpur residents will receive it as a gift in the new year. The clock was restored to its former brilliance at a lower cost and in a shorter amount of time thanks to the initiative made by HMT Ltd. A freshwater feature has been put in.
Additionally, a garden is being built. The NMC built the clock tower in 2012. The Durbar Watch requested an annual expenditure of Rs 36 lakh for the upkeep and repair of the watch as well as the landscaping. In exchange, the corporation was required to erect five gantries in the local community and grant them a 10-year advertising licence.
The permission to advertise for three years and authorization to erect five gantries were both approved by the then-Standing Committee. However, Durbar Watch Company insisted on only 10-year advertising rights.
Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Radhakrishnan B gave the order to look for more organisations in this regard in April 2022.
In accordance with the Municipal Commissioner’s instructions, HMT Ltd. was contacted, and after conducting a personal inspection, the company’s experts estimated that the clock tower would require Rs1,72,652 in repairs.
The engineers successfully restarted the workshop, which had been closed for the previous eight years, after working nonstop for nine days and nights from July 13 to 21, 2014.
