On the first day of the New Year, a Sunday, Nagpur residents could be seen socializing in very large numbers. Along with the Nagpur Maha Metro, the Balasaheb Thackrey Gorewada International Zoological Park also recorded a huge footfall on Sunday.
The number of people who visited the Gorewada Zoo was near about 2,500 in a single day which generated a revenue of Rs 9.7 lakh on Sunday itself. On average, the zoological park generates a revenue of Rs 40,000 per day on weekdays and over Rs 1 lakh on weekends.
The vehicles of the visitors had started lining up outside the zoo gate on Sunday morning. By 10.00 am, the parking area of the zoo was completely full and the vehicles were even parked outside the premises. A huge amount of visitors had opted for advance online bookings meanwhile the other visitors had to stand in a long queue for the spot entry.
The FDCM buses were full due to the rush and hence the Gorewada Zoo had to hire private buses to ferry the visitors.
However, despite the numerous efforts of the management, around 1000 people had to return back without a safari considering the huge crowd.
The Gorewada Zoo this time even had visitors from other cities like Amravati, Akola, Chandrapur, and nearby towns. Including visitors from Pune, Mumbai, and Guwahati too. The number of trips in the morning and evening safari’s had to be increased on Sunday.
According to the Gorewada director and divisional manager of Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (FDCM), the revenue of Rs 9.7 lakh generated by Gorewada Zoo was the highest single-day revenue ever since the park was inaugurated on January 26, 2021.
