Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has partnered with Suritex Pvt Ltd to collect and properly dispose of e-Waste in order to address the issue of effective e-Waste disposal. Households are burdened with unnecessary equipment and electronics that they are unable to dispose of. Many electronic devices include metals, and in order to properly collect them, it is necessary to scientifically recycle them.
On Tuesday and Wednesday between the hours of 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., a special e-Waste collection campaign is being held at the verandah of the NMC’s administrative building, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Administrative Building, at the civic centre.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Ram Joshi appealed citizens to dispose of the unused batteries, mobile handsets, remote control, headphones and other items at NMC office so that they can be properly recycled. The collection, transportation and processing of e-Waste generated in city is regulated under
the e-Waste Management Research Rules 2018 and Suritex Pvt Ltd is given the work on pilot basis.
Due to this, e-Waste is being collected and disposed from different parts of city a town expense. At the NMC centre, Suritex Pvt Ltd will purchase the e-Waste at Rs 15/kg. All officers and employees of NMC and citizens should deposit their used/unusable e Waste like broken electronic/electrical equipment etc. at the special collection centre.
