In the vicinity of Futala Lake, restaurants are being erected on Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU) property. This has been taken seriously by the Bombay High Court’s Nagpur Bench, which has requested that the commissioner of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation provide a response in this regard by January 18.
Justice Atul Chandurkar and Justice Vrushali Joshi’s division bench heard the case. The court is currently hearing a PIL against encroachment in the city. No restaurants have been allowed here by MAFSU or NMC administration.
On the following date, two other PILS concerning encroachment will also be heard concurrently. In areas controlled by the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) and Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA), several encroachments have appeared. According to a court ruling, there have been 4,675 unauthorised structures in the NIT region, 1,521 in the NMC area, and 3,019 in the NMRDA area. A joint committee has been established in accordance with the court’s directive to take effective action against these constructions.
Along with this, the duty to oversee security during the destruction of unlawful structures has been delegated to the deputy commissioner of the special branch of the police. A nodal officer has also been chosen for this.
