As per the directions given by National Biodiversity Authority, Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board, the Birds of Vidarbha has been appointed for the Asain Waterfowl census 2023. Birds of Vidarbha in association with Nagpur Forest Department, Forest Development Corporation Limited Gorewada Project, and Nagpur Municipal Corporation will do the census.
The census will be carried out at selected lakes in and around Nagpur, which are habitats of migratory and local waterfowl on January 21, 2023, Saturday.
The census will be done at the same time on all the lakes by 3 or 4 or more groups of people. The time for the census is 7.00 am to 9.30 am (2 hours and 30 minutes). A form will be given to the interested people and they can choose their lake. If for any reason the group is unable to select the place, the institution will offer one to them.
On Sunday, January 22, the final count will be of the waterfowl at Ambazari Biodiversity Park from 7.00 am to 8.30 am followed by a dedication program.
The waterfowl census is being done all over the world and is being conducted on behalf of Wetland International. Bombay Natural History Society is the co-ordinator in India. These counts are carried out under the supervision of expert Bird Watchers, Researchers, and public participants. The collected data is handed over to the government for implementing the next remedial plan.
