The decision on which is the real Shiv Sena and its symbol will be taken by the Election Commission on January 30. The prestigious issue of the party symbol – Bow and Arrow, is being contested after Eknath Shinde along with more than 40 MLAs of Shiv Sena revolted against the party chief Uddhav Thackeray, which led to the collapse of Maha-Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra.
Shinde, with a majority of legislators with him, has claimed his faction as the real Shiv Sena. The issue is also pending with the Supreme Court.
Arguments between Shinde and Thackeray factions were held in front of the Election Commission on Friday. The Election Commission has sought written replies from both groups and the final decision will be taken on January 30.
Thackeray group is represented by Kapil Sibbal and Mahesh Jethmalani held briefs for the Shinde group.
