The Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Wednesday that 901 police officers have been awarded police medals ahead of the 74th Republic Day Celebrations.
A total of 140 officers have received the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), 93 have received the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM), and 688 have received the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM).
Omprakash Gangadhar Kokate, Police Inspector (Nagpur Rural), has been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
In Maharashtra, 31 police officers were awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry, four were awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, and 39 officers were awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
The Police Medal for Gallantry is given in recognition of conspicuous bravery in saving lives and property, preventing crime, or apprehending criminals. The President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service is awarded for exceptional service in the police force, while the Police Medal for Meritorious Service is awarded for noteworthy service that demonstrates resourcefulness and dedication to duty.
