More than 39,000 voters will exercise the franchise for electing Teachers’ Representatives in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, from the Nagpur constituency. The constituency is spread over six districts of Nagpur Revenue Division viz Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara, and Gondia.
The polling is scheduled for January 30 at 124 polling centers. The counting of votes will be held on February 2. According to the official record, 39,604 voters are on the electoral list, which includes 16,702 women and 22,704 men voters. The number of polling centers in various districts is – Nagpur- 43, Wardha – 14, Bhandara – 12, Gondia – 10, Chandrapur – 27, and Gadchiroli – 18.
The number of registered voters has increased to 39,604 from 35,900 in 2017. The campaigning for this constituency is hectic as the voters are spread over six districts. Besides organizing meetings at district places, the candidates communicate with the voters through letters and social media. The role of teachers’ organizations is important. The contest in the real sense is between Sudhakar Adabale of Maha Vikas Aghadi and Nago Ganar of Bharatiya Janata Party.
